Elaine Denkers Peterson, 82, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away at her home on January 28, 2026, with her husband by her side. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed.

Elaine was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on July 26, 1943, to William and Lucille Denkers. She dedicated her life to her family, her church, and her love of music and learning. Elaine loved to learn. She was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed books about American history and her church. Elaine was the first in her family to graduate from college, earning her degree and teaching credentials from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. It was during college that she met her husband, David, in a romance languages course; they were married on June 3, 1968, in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Her teaching career began in Alberta, Canada, where she braved the snowy roads in a tiny 1966 VW Beetle she had worked hard to purchase (Elaine's car is on display at the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum in Sapulpa). Much of Elaine's career was devoted to teaching piano in her home and as a teacher of vocal music and French for Verdigris Public Schools in elementary, junior high, and high school.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, throughout her life, Elaine generously served in multiple leadership and teaching roles, as well as frequently being called on to play the organ and piano for services. She enjoyed watching Music & the Spoken Word and singing along with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 57 years, David of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her children, Paul (Heather) of White Rock, New Mexico, Kimberly of Oakland, California, and Shane (Stephanie) of Kennesaw, Georgia; her cherished grandchildren, Allison (Joshua), Ryan, Jade, Kyson, Hannah, Elliott, and William; and her siblings, Bea, Joyce (Keith), and Bill; along with extended family members and many friends and neighbors who will miss her and her hugs dearly. Her infectious smile and loving spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her.

A viewing and funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12110 E. 7th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Viewing will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m.
