Elizabeth Mary ?Betsy? Bird

Elizabeth Mary ?Betsy? Bird, 90, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013 in Tulsa. Betsy was born December 5, 1922 to Katherine (O?Brien) and Henry Robert Simpson in Taft, California. She graduated from St Mary?s College of Nursing in San Francisco and immediately entered military service as a registered nurse in the US Navy. She was a flight nurse on the Navy?s largest seaplane at the time, the MARS. Prior to her duty on the MARS, she was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska where she met her future husband Lt. A.L. Bird, USN. They married in 1951 and when A.L. retired from the Navy, a job with McDonnell Douglas brought them to Tulsa. Betsy was active with the RNCV, serving in numerous positions. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, A.L. Bird, her son, Robert L. ?Bob? Bird and daughter, Ann Elizabeth. She is survived by grandsons Corporal R. Alexander Bird, USMC and Travis A. Bird, both of Tulsa, daughter-in-law, Barbara K. Bird, Tulsa, sister, Patricia Canjelosi, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family extends special thanks the employees and staff of St Simeon?s for their constant love and support.
