Obituary

Elizabeth Turnbull passed away Sunday, January 29 at the age of ninety three. Elizabeth was born to Carl and Dora Zimmerman at her grandparents' farm in Oklahoma City. In 1930, the family bought a farm west of Norman where Elizabeth lived until her graduation from the University of Oklahoma in 1944. Elizabeth completed college quickly as she was eager to enter the workforce and contribute to the war effort.

After earning her Bachelor of Accounting, she moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky where she went to work for the U.S. Navy. A friend from college, Mary Lee (Turnbull) Smith, introduced Elizabeth to her brother John, and in 1949 Elizabeth and John, (Jack to his friends and family) were married. The couple lived in Sallisaw and Pawhuska, Oklahoma, before making their home in Tulsa where their only daughter, Johnna, was born in 1953. Elizabeth remained in Tulsa the rest of her life. She enjoyed China painting, card games, I Love Lucy, her daily walks, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Johnna and Mark Thurston of Tulsa, grandchildren Colleen Thurston of Tulsa, Adrienne and Neel Choksi of Houston, great-granddaughter Norah Choksi, nieces Susan Zimmerman of Duncan, OK, Mary Jo Tinsley of Norman, OK and Susan Whyatt of Norman, OK and nephews Chris Zimmerman of Duncan, OK and Paul Zimmerman of Duncan, OK. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and older brother Carl Zimmerman.

The family would like to extend thanks to all of the caring staff at Saint Simeon's Home in Tulsa where Elizabeth lived her last few years. They loved her as their own and we thank God for their care, respect and loving kindness.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at College Hill Presbyterian Church, 712 S. Columbia Avenue, Tulsa, OK. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
