Elizabeth "Betty" Clawson, 87, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016 in Tulsa, OK. Betty was born February 16, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Elizabeth Burl Hudson and Ernest L. Moss who were natives of Broken Arrow, OK.
Betty married her husband Norman E. Clawson in Broken Arrow on May 10, 1947 and they celebrated 61 years together before Norman preceded her in death in June 2008. She graduated from Coweta High School and attended Northeastern State College where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She remained active in the sorority and with her Delta Zeta sisters throughout her life. She was a past president of P.E.O.
Betty also devoted her energies to church and civic activities in every community where she and Norman lived in Tulsa, Claremore and Harrison, AR. She was always involved in developing and supporting fine arts including local theater groups. She worked with her mother in Washington, D.C. During World War II for the U.S. Census Bureau and continued that work throughout her life.
After retirement Betty and Norman resettled in Broken Arrow near family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Connye Le Griffin and her husband, Al and Cathye Clawson Rennie; granddaughters, Marye Moss Rennie, Elisabeth Rennie Griswold and her husband, Peter, Megan McClendon and her husband, Joseph; grandson, David Clawson Rennie and four great-grandchildren. The family request any memorials be made to animal rescue organizations in Broken Arrow and Tulsa.
