Obituary

On Sunday, December 27, 2020, Ella Mae Chronister died at her home in Tulsa where she had lived for over 70 years. She was born on July 24, 1927, in Tulsa, OK, to Beulah Edith Cobler Harrell and Augustus Clarence Harrell, Sr. On February 10, 1945, Ella Mae married William L. (Bill) Chronister, the love of her life. It truly was a "match made in heaven" and they were married a little over 70 years when Bill died in November of 2015.

Ella Mae was the second of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Isla Rhae Wyatt, and her older brother, A.C. Harrell, Jr., niece Susan (Tink) Cornelison and nephew Randy Harrell. She is survived by her brother Don (Gert) Harrell of St. Charles, Missouri and sister Lois Yeager of Tulsa, OK. Also surviving her are nieces and nephews Scott Harrell of Inola, OK, Cherie Smith of Coweta, OK, Mike Kirby of Tulsa, OK, Patrice Jones of Inola, OK, Tim Harrell of Bentonville, AR, Doug Harrell of Oologah, OK, Tom Harrell of Stillwater, OK, Todd Harrell of Broken Arrow, OK, and Stan Harrell of Claremore, OK, many great nieces and nephews and her beloved Dog and Companion, Billy Fred.

Ella Mae was blessed with many talents, cooking, sewing, and just about anything she put her mind to. She made everything from the curtains for the family cabin in Locust Grove to helping put a new roof on it almost 35 years ago. At the time of her death she had an older house fan taken apart on her patio to replace the belt on it.

Even though she had no children born to her, she never lacked in receiving love from her nieces and nephews and their children and they were the ones that she doted on. Her home was always decorated for every holiday and she enjoyed making holidays special for her family. Many summers were spent at the family lake house in Locust Grove with her "kids" playing games, going to the creek and boating in the lake. She was the primary daytime caregiver for them as well while their parents worked. She had such a love for children and animals (especially dogs). She also loved to travel and her nephew Tom made sure she got her share of travel adventures before her health started to decline.

She enjoyed her time spent as a member of the Miniature Club of Tulsa and her years of volunteering every Tuesday at The Tulsa Center for the Physically Limited (now known as The Center).

She truly was a loving and devoted daughter -sister - wife - aunt and friend to all who had the blessing of sharing their life with her. She had a way of making every person she met or shared company with feel like they were so very special. Even on the days that she wasn't feeling well or down, she would comment on how blessed and thankful she was. She was our Angel and our hearts are broken that we had to let her go. We take comfort in knowing that one day we will see her again.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Heart Failure Clinic at St. Francis Hospital for the excellent care our Aunt Mae received while in their care.
