Obituary

Elmer L. Clark went to his heavenly home on February 23, 2014 at the age of 94. He was born to Guy and Elizabeth Clark in Leslie, Arkansas on June 2, 1919. He grew up and attended school in Tulsa, graduating from Central High and then attended University of Tulsa. He met and fell in love with Dorothea (Dottie) Hughes but their romance was interrupted by WWII. Upon his return from the Philippines, family and Dottie were waiting at the train station. They married 3 days later at First Baptist Church on July 18, 1944. He loved his country and served in the Army where he was attached to the 32nd division. He was presented the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Above all else, Elmer and Dottie loved the Lord. They attended First Baptist Church in Tulsa and actively served throughout their lives. He was a deacon and served as their chairman, was in the choir and taught morning and evening bible classes. Elmer and Dottie enjoyed traveling throughout the world and he would always write a rhyme about their daily experiences in their travels. He would also write comedy skits which he, Dottie and friends would perform at church functions. They loved playing games and cards with friends and family. He had a love for music and was self-taught on the harmonica and loved to play at church and other events. He wrote poetry, especially for his loved ones, was an accomplished artist and enjoyed sculpturing and wood work. He was an avid golfer, tennis player and bowler, winning awards in all three sports, until arthritis prevented his playing. Always civic minded, he was a long standing member and past president of the Civitan Club, past president of the American Business Club and the Dale Carnegie Club. He served on the board of director's for the Tulsa Junior College and the Better Business Bureau, Republican precinct chairman and Mayor La Fortune's advisory staff. He also served on the John 3:16 Mission, United Way and the Tulsa Boys Home. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, obtaining the 32nd degree.
Elmer was in the automobile business for 42 years at Parrish & Clark Dodge, becoming the president and principle owner, as well as president and principle owner of Four State Motor Parts. He served on the National Dodge Dealers Council, was past president of the Tulsa Automobile Dealers Association. His highest professional award was being named the Time Magazine Quality Automobile Dealer of the Year.
Elmer was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years Dottie, his parents, Guy and Elizabeth, and his brother Arthur. He is survived by his son Randy Clark and wife Dana of Tyler, Texas, son Larry Clark and wife Betty of Tulsa, daughter Cheryl Clark of Tulsa, grandchildren Aaron Clark and wife Melissa, Jared Cable and wife Megan, Joshua and Lisa Cable, Karissa Hart, Dan Mehling, great grandchildren Gracey Cable and Christina Stump, Brayden and Chandler Cable, brother in law Donald F. Hughes, and nephews Dr. William Hughes and Christopher Clark, wife Sandy and daughter Nely.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27 at Moore's Funeral Home Southlawn, 9350 E 51st Street, Tulsa, from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be on Friday, February 28 at First Baptist Church, 403 S Cincinnati, Tulsa, at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Baptist Church.
