EMILY LOU CALDWELL passed away at the age of 96 in Tulsa on July 1, 2017, and joined the saints in heaven. She was born March 23, 1921 to Robert L. Cook and Grace Anderson Cook in Ada, Oklahoma. As a preteen she and family moved to Tulsa. Upon graduation from Tulsa Central HS she attended East Central State in Ada, where she met her future husband, Vittum E. Caldwell. Emily and Vittum shared 70 years of marriage together. She worked at both a preschool and at Standard Grocery Market -- Tulsa.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Grace Cook, husband Vittum Caldwell and son Michael J. Caldwell. She is survived by her son Robert E. Caldwell and his wife Judy Caldwell of Huntsville, Texas; daughter-in-law Renate Caldwell of Broken Arrow; granddaughters Laura Rhoads and husband Stephen Rhoads of Tyler, Texas, Rachel Caldwell of Broken Arrow, and Michelle Anderson and husband John Anderson of Broken Arrow; and by great-granddaughters Hope Rhoads and Reagan Anderson. She is also survived by her brother Tommy Cook and sister Gloria Cook Davis, both of Tulsa.
Emily was a long time member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church, where she was a first grade Sunday School teacher. She loved being a supporter of veterans activities, with Vittum at the American Legion Post #1 and elsewhere. "Mimi," as the grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her, was the ultimate cheerleader and was always encouraging them. She liked to watch professional tennis and golf and kept up with the leaders in the various tournaments.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Boston Avenue Methodist Church - children's ministries or a charity of your choice. The funeral service will be held at Moore Funeral Home Southlawn Chapel in Tulsa on July 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
