Emma Jean Tygart Covington Crowell passed away on January 19, 2021 at the age of 95. She was born on September 26, 1925 in her family farm home in Dade County, MO. She was one of five children born to James Coy and Norma Frieze Tygart. Her family moved to Tulsa, OK in 1939 where she attended Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1943.
In the summer after graduating high school, Emma Jean met Glenn Alfred Covington. They were married on December 15, 1945 and had two children, Glenda Jean Stephens-Ashton and Gene Alfred Covington. After Glenn's death in 1975, Emma Jean met John Crowell while working at Children's Clinic of Tulsa. They were married on May 1, 1981.
Emma Jean is predeceased by her first husband, Glenn Covington; her mother, Norma Frieze Tygart; her father, James Coy Tygart; her two sisters, Lora Lee and Edna Mae; one brother, Eldon; and her daughter, Glenda Jean Stephens-Ashton. She is survived by her husband, John Crowell; her son, Gene Alfred Covington; her older brother, James Lowell Tygart; her two stepsons, Bill and Tom Crowell; three grandchildren, Rob Stephens, Lance Stephens, and Stephanie Hockman; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Emma Jean's first job after high school was as a tooth girl at Hettinger Brothers Dental. She later worked in the business office at Springer Clinic and the Children's Clinic of Tulsa before retiring as an accounts manager at Tulsa Internal Medicine in 1992. She continued to volunteer at Saint Francis Hospital auxiliary for 10 years and volunteered with her husband, John, for 15 years delivering Meals on Wheels as well as many other volunteer activities. She and John have been active members of the Boston Avenue Methodist Church since 1985.
Emma lived a long, meaningful life. She was the center of her family and she will be missed. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 1-6pm at Moore Funeral Home � Southlawn Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, January 26th at Memorial Park Cemetery. A full memorial service will be held at a later day.
