Jeanne A. McKenzie, 90, passed away unexpectedly on October 10, 2017. She spent her early years in Oklahoma City, and graduated from Monte Cassino High School in Tulsa. She earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism, Sociology and History from Oklahoma A&M, (OSU) where she was involved in many campus organizations and a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Jeanne met Fred G. McKenzie, her husband of 52 years at the University of Oklahoma and they married in 1950. They lived in Oklahoma City and Portland, Oregon, before moving to Tulsa in 1968. Jeanne and Fred were always active in the community, PTA, the Ombudsman program and The Tulsa Psychiatric Foundation.
After the loss of Fred in 2001, she found her second love Richard L. Bonwell and they enjoyed entertaining, traveling, bridge, tennis, fishing, boating, and reading until his death in 2010.
Early in her life she discovered a love of bridge. She became a Life Master in 1964. Jeanne played bridge 6 to 7 times a week! She loved the game and met many wonderful friends.
Jeanne was always optimistic and outgoing, she was always was up for a party and a good time. Her warmth and wisdom made her a friend to all. She was interested in everyone's life and a joy to be around. Her boundless energy and enthusiasm were a wonder to all that knew her.
Jeanne was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a special woman who touched so many hearts with her kindness, humor and love.
Jeanne is survived by her daughter Margene McKenzie, son Fred G. McKenzie Jr. (wife, Janice); granddaughters Margo and Madeline McKenzie; daughter Amy Ozturk (husband, Ahmet); grandsons Matthew and J.J. Ozturk; her step-granddaughter Jordan Pierce, former daughter-in-law Tracy A. Hare (husband, Allan) and her beloved fur babies Mai Tai and McKenzie. She was preceded in death by her mother Marge E. Rush.
Spirited, passionate, caring and supportive, her absence from this earth creates a tremendous void which will be filled to overflowing with cherished memories. She will be missed more than words can express by everyone that knew this vivacious woman.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 709 S Boston Ave, Tulsa, OK. A Celebration of Life for one incredible woman will follow at her son's home.
