Erma Lea Cherry's Obituary
Erma Lea Cherry began the new year in Heaven as she passed from this life on January 1, 2019. Erma was a dedicated and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Erma will be remembered for her sparkling blue eyes, big smile, and contagious laugh.
Erma was born on April 7, 1929 in Delaware County, Oklahoma to her parents James and Babe Allen. She was the fourth of five siblings, Opal, Hayden, Lula 'Dinky', and Betty, who have preceded her in death. Erma loved to play basketball in high school, which is how James first took notice of her. They soon met and Erma married the love of her life, James Hopkins Cherry on May 2, 1947 in Pineville, Missouri. Thus began the beautiful adventure of 71 years that was their lives together. Erma and James lived 61 years in the same home in Tulsa, where they raised their three children. Erma loved to cook for her family and was known for her chocolate pies. She enjoyed working in the church as a life long member of the Church of Christ. She also loved RV travel, watching basketball, playing cards, and just talking to family and friends.
Erma Lea is survived by her loving husband James Cherry and her three children, Phil (Jenifer) Cherry of Henderson, NV, Mike Cherry of Tulsa, and Tamra (Mike) Scott of Johns Creek, GA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four nephews and four nieces.
The pall bearers will be Jason Cherry, Matt Cherry, Grant Scott, and Mark Connett.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 8, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., at the Moore's Eastlawn Chapel, 1908 South Memorial Road, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74112.
A Celebration Service will be held on Wednesday, January 9, at 10:00 a.m., at the 29th and Yale Church of Christ, 2901 South Yale, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74114. Interment Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow, OK
