Ernest Bays, 82, of Broken Arrow, OK, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, in Claremore, OK. He was born on Saturday, July 3, 1937, in Stillwater, OK, to Walter Bays and Ocealine Ventriss (Robbins) Bays. Ernest was married to the love of his life, Rozella Faye (Rust) Bays, on July 4, 1959, in Stillwater, OK, and they were happily married for 60 years, upon his passing. He was proud to have served 24 years in the US Army, retiring as a SGT First Class, including serving in the Vietnam War. He was a retired U. S. Postal Service supervisor. Ernest was a member of The Church at Battle Creek, enjoyed singing, woodworking, crafts, and playing bingo. He appreciated eating a good, home-cooked meal, catfish and going to Braum's. Ernest had a kind, gentle spirit, valued his friendships and relationships, and took great pride in his children, seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a sports fan, an avid golfer, and he especially took pleasure in fishing with his grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Ernest is survived by his wife, Rozella Faye Bays; son, Jerry Guin Bays and wife, Rhonda of Broken Arrow, OK; two daughters, Tarri Van Dalsem and Cheryl Bays, both of Broken Arrow, OK; seven brothers, Gene, Dale, Roy, Jack, Rex, Ronnie, and Mike Bays; three sisters, Doris Garrison, Pat Ward, and Connie Booth; nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Barbara Rust and Gladys Roe. Ernest will be greatly missed in the days ahead, but his spirit and memories will live on within each of us, because we were privileged to have him in our lives.
