Ernie Day was born on March 4, 1937, in Eufaula, Oklahoma and died peacefully on July 13, 2021, in Tulsa. He was the third child of Ernest and Nora Bailey Day. The family moved to Muskogee when he was a young child. He was a proud member of the Muskogee Rougher football team. He attended the University of Oklahoma on a football scholarship playing on the 1956 national championship team and graduating with his Bachelor of Business Administration. He was then accepted to OU School of Law and continued on to complete his law degree in 1962. He then met his wife, Frances Moran Day and they married upon his graduation from law school. In April, they celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Ernie practiced law in Tulsa for 42 years, helping many families with estate planning. He enjoyed watching OU football and traveling with friends and family. He loved his children, seven grandchildren (who called him "Pappy"), and four great-grandchildren, as well as his lifelong best friends from Muskogee. The family would like to thank Diane Markey, his loving caregiver, for her love and great care of our husband, Dad and Pappy.
Ernie is preceded in death by his son, Thomas Michael Day, his parents, and his sisters, Pat Elliott and Sally Day, and niece, Susan Day. He is survived by his wife, Francie Day; children: Terry Day of Charleston, SC, Debbie Day O'Connor (Craig) of Tulsa, OK, Kevin Day (Lynn) of Richardson, TX; grandchildren: Austen and Meredith Day, Katie Evans (Rob), Erin Wiggins (Michael), Mark O'Connor, and Lindsey and Brooke Day; great grandchildren: Bennett and Hudson Wiggins, Jackson and Connor Evans; nieces: Becky Day and Cathy Nelson; and nephew: Steve Elliott.
