Obituary

Eugene (Gene) Oscar Ameringer was born to Nora and Siegfried Ameringer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 12, 1923 and died September 25, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Gene lived to be 92 years young. Gene was raised in Oklahoma City and graduated from Oklahoma City Classen High School in 1942. While only in Junior High, Gene met the love of his life Marie Burnsed. Marie and Gene were married on September 8, 1944, and then he shipped off for Europe, and World War II only two weeks later. Gene trained with the 99th Infantry Division that later was badly mauled in the Battle of the Bulge. However, by a twist of fate, and due to Gene's ability to type, he was transferred out of the 99th and into the Engineering Battalion just before shipping overseas. After the war, Gene finished his college education and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Gene remained a loyal Sooner fan throughout his life both enjoying and suffering the highs and lows of Sooner Football.

After finishing school, Gene and Marie moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1950 where Gene took a job as a land man for Cities Service Oil Company. Gene worked for Cities Service for 36 years before retiring in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1985. Gene and Marie were married for 71 years and had four children: Beverly, Jan, Greg and Pam. Gene and Marie were dedicated and tireless parents making school, hard work, character, value and the importance of family the guiding principles of the family, and they took great pride in the fact that all four children graduated from college and now have families of their own.

Gene was very proud of his grandfather Oscar Ameringer who was a well-known writer, humorist, editor, and labor organizer who immigrated to the United States from Achstetten, Germany when he was only 15. Oscar's two most popular books were: The Life and Deeds of Uncle Sam, which sold more than half a million copies in the early 1900's, and If You Don't Weaken. Throughout his long life, Gene always admired Oscar Ameringer's spirit, courage, and determination.

Your family will miss you Gene more than words can ever express, and we want to thank you for who you were and what you did to support and guide us in our lives. You truly left an undeniable mark on us all. Gene is survived by his wife Marie, his four children, his twelve grandchildren, and his seven great-great-grandchildren.
