Eugene Charles Henson, age 100, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 10, 1924, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, to the late Thomas and Ora (Bullard) Henson.
Eugene graduated from Collinsville High School in 1943 and later continued his education through college courses at Tulsa University. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career, initially with Ferguson Enterprises, where he retired at the age of 62. Eugene then worked for American Trim and Upholstery from 1990 to 2015. On October 15, 1949, Eugene married his beloved wife, Gertie Mae (Fischer) Henson. Together, they raised two children and shared a fulfilling 75 years of marriage. Eugene was an avid runner and participated in numerous Tulsa Runs and other events throughout the Tulsa area.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Gertie; his children, David Henson of Tulsa, OK and Julia Henson Baker (Mike) of Tulsa, OK; his grandchildren, Adam Townes (Christine) of Pelham, AL, Jessica Townes of Pelham, AL, Chase Baker (Melanie) of Owasso, OK, and Alexis Baker Evans (Van) of Skiatook, OK. Eugene is also survived by his great-grandchildren Lt. Dominic Fanella, Private Andruw Townes, Solomon Townes, Sandford Townes, Yadiel Townes, Garin Fitts, Elora Baker, Abigail Baker, and Chasey Baker; his sisters Ruth Henson Hull of Broken Arrow, OK and Donna Henson Taylor of Collinsville, OK; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Eugene is preceded in death by his sister Earline Henson, brother Tom Henson, and sister Barbara (Henson) Carlburg.
Eugene had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord, which guided him throughout his life. He knew the peace and joy that comes from a life lived in service to Christ. It is with great comfort that we know Eugene is now at rest in his eternal home, restored and in the presence of his Savior. As it is written in Revelation 21:4, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Eugene's spirit is now free from the burdens of this world, and he is reunited with the Lord in perfect peace.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Moore Funeral Home - Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, OK. Following the service, a graveside will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, where Eugene will be laid to rest.
Eugene's kind, generous and compassionate spirit touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
