Obituary

Mrs. Eugenia Ruth "Genie" Spencer, age 97, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away Monday evening, January 25, 2021.

She was born here in Tulsa on March 2, 1923, the youngest daughter of five children to the late Guy and Pearl (Hoke) Pringle - or as she affectionately called them all her life, "Mother and Daddy."

Her family eventually settled in Illinois where she graduated from Clay City High School, a passionate member of the Band and Girl's Glee Club. After graduation, Genie went to work at Fort Leonard Wood U.S. Army training base as a PBX Switchboard Telephone Operator.

She married Norman E. Spencer on December 31, 1948. Shortly afterward they moved back to Tulsa to make their home and start a family.

Genie worked at Oertle's Department store as the Manager of the candy department. She also made beautiful silk flower arrangements and wedding bouquets. Always handy with the sewing machine, Genie made clothes, drapes, baby blankets, bedspreads and was even occasionally called upon to reupholster the front seat of a Chevy Nova.

She was very involved in her church and sang in the Older Adult Choir. Being a Southern Baptist, there was always some sort of food to be made and taken to an event or someone in need. You could barely set foot in her house without some type of treat being offered - a fudgesicle, an Oreo, a coke or an overripe banana. And you never left her company without a "Be careful!" send-off or a "See ya later alligator!" if she was the one leaving.

After retirement, she traveled extensively with her husband in their motorhome (making sure to leaving plenty of time for shopping.) She spent countless hours at her children and grandchildren's sporting events and all of their other activities. She loved her family well.

She was spunky, and witty, and seemed to have endless energy. There was no limit to her generosity. If you mentioned to her that you liked something, she would give you hers or buy it for you. You never saw her without her makeup perfected, hair fixed, wardrobe freshly pressed... and wearing matching jewelry. She was certainly adored and loved beyond measure by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Genie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband of 51 years and her great-granddaughter, Destiny.

Genie's legacy lives on through her adoring children Larry (Diana) Spencer, Ron (Debi) Spencer and Pam (Earl) Schwark; her 10 spoiled grandchildren - Anita (James) Strickler, Audra (Kyle) Russell, Ross (Molly) Spencer, Ryan (Lauren) Spencer, Robby Spencer, Trey Schwark, Tracy (Tadd) Rader, Trisha Schwark, Jamie (Chad) Limberg and Jenna Schwark; and 16 blessed great-grandchildren.
