Eunice (Wheeler) Whelchel of Fayetteville Arkansas passed away on March 13, 2018 in her home in Vinton, Iowa. She was short by 3 months of being a 103 years old.
Eunice was born in Huntsville, Arkansas to Nancy Jane and James Wheeler on June 13, 1915. She graduated from Springdale High School in Springdale, Arkansas. Eunice married Clarance Whelchel in Combs, Arkansas on December 24, 1938 . They had two children, Leon Whelchel and Patricia Whelchel Moore.
Eunice and Clarence lived in California during WWII. Clarence worked in the ship yards while Eunice worked in the aircraft factory with a group of women who were referred to as "Rosy the Riveter". At the end of the war they returned to Arkansas, and a few years later, settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Eunice built a home business as a beautician, which she successfully ran until her retirement in 1977. Upon retirement, she returned to the Fayetteville, Arkansas to be near family, and moved to Vinton, Iowa 2006, to be near her son, Leon.
Eunice enjoyed gardening, handwork, cooking and extensive travel to many parts of the United States, Europe and the Middle East. She is survived by her two children, Leon Whelchel (Mary Ann) and Patricia Moore; six grandchildren, Talley Moore Pinniger (Kurt), Summer Moore Stone (Jared), Austin Moore (Jenny), Jenny Whelchel, Lisa Whelchel Peterson (Craig) and Andrew Whelchel (Natalie); and nine great grandchildren. Eunice is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; two brothers, Jason and Elmer Wheeler; four sisters Ora Fritz, May Rose, Mincie Latham, and Arla Copeland.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Burial will be at Memorial Park, following the service.
