Obituary

Evedna Cole Gordon was born November 1, 1916 in Vian, Oklahoma. She home to be with the Lord August 22, 2013 following a brief illness. Evedna was the 6th of 8 children born to Alva L. and Carolyn Robertson Cole.
Evedna is predeceased by husband; Clarence L. Gordon, her siblings: Bertha C. Vanfleet, Ella E. Whitman, Lula C. Cole, Charles M. Cole, Sally M. Beshara, Alva L. Cole and Betty Jo Carson. She is also predeceased by her best friend Frances Blazer with whom she shared a birth date and her nephews Joe C. Cole, MD and John Alan Carson of Muskogee.
Evedna married the love of her life Clarence Lavere Gordon on March 16, 1938 when they eloped to Coweta, Oklahoma. Evedna and Clarence were parents to Sue Ella Robinson (Ken) of Glenpool, Oklahoma and C.L. Gordon (Sharon) of Grove, Oklahoma. She was MeMaw to 4 grandchildren (Jeffrey Gordon Baker of London, England, Susan Elizabeth Bence (Dustin) of Oologah, Ok. Trey Gordon (Shelly) of Seattle, Washington and Lara Anne Gordon of Monte Vista Colorado, 5 great grandchildren Sara Elizabeth Bence, Emily Rose Bence, Jack Gordon Baker, Sophie Gordon and Madeline Gordon all of whom survive her. Also surviving her special nephew Dan Besharsa (Jane) , Atlanta,Ga. Niece Judy Rounak (John), Fayetteville, ARK. And numerous great nieces & nephews.
Evedna graduated from Tahlequah High School and was educated at Northeastern State University where she was Homecoming Queen and studied education. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She began her teaching career in 1952 at Union Public Schools. She also served Tulsa Public Schools for many years until her retirement in 1975. She was a devoted master teacher who loved children and instilled a passion for reading and the love of learning to all children. She was a helping teacher who spent many years as a mentor for new teachers to begin their career in a professional and meaningful way.
Evedna was a fifty year member of Chapter CY of P.E.O. Sisterhood and Boston Ave Methodist Church. Evedna was a strong devoted daughter and sibling, friend and most of all a cherished mother to her children and grandchildren throughout her long life. Her hobbies were her family and friends and her devotion to their well being. She loved spending time entertaining at their lake house and opened her home to all who knew her. Her generous spirit and zest for living brought joy and laughter to family and friends, who now rest assured that she has left this world a better place because of her life well lived.
