Leu, Evelyn was born Jan. 18, 1911 in Sapulpa, OK. She passed from this life
April 22, 2015 at 12:45 a.m. in the Cedar Crest Nursing Center in
Broken Arrow, OK.
She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Lourin Everly &
her mother Clara Ella Evans as well as several aunts & uncles.
Evelyn completed her high school education in 1929. In 1930 she
married Andrew Smith, a bus driver, in Sapulpa, and they were
married for 8 years. In 1958, she married Oscar Leu in New
Mexico. After 8 years, they separated but remained married until
his death.
She lived in many places throughout Oklahoma, New Mexico, &
Colorado. Evelyn showed dogs, a career that allowed her to travel
to California & earned her many awards. Her hobbies included
anything she could do with her hands.
Evelyn was a member of Christview Christian Church and
considered the people there her family. She enjoyed going to
church when she could and loved the hymn "In the Garden." She
always enjoyed the visits from men in the church and their wives
who visited to give her communion. As long as you didn't stay too
long. Even at the nursing home in recent months, she wasn't afraid
to tell you it was time to leave and for you to get on with your day.
Evelyn knew what was going on these past few years & told me
many, many, times she was ready to die & to be with the Lord. I
prayed with her Tuesday morning before she passed early
Wednesday, and though she was not awake, she moved like she
heard my voice. As we said goodbye, I know God was waiting with
open arms to say,
"Welcome home! Well done, my good & faithful servant."
