Born in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, Ene lived almost her entire life in and around the Tulsa area. But she certainly wasn't tethered strictly to Oklahoma. When she wasn't managing her rental properties (and micromanaging her renters), she was traveling all over the United States with her touring company, Evelyn's Tours, in search of the biggest, brightest, and all-around best casinos.
Ene's talents didn't end with her professional ambition though; she was an enthusiastic performer and prolific lover of music. From her Dolly Parton impressions to her songwriting and guitar playing, Ene was passionate about music - a love (and her treasured 1947 Gibson) that she passed on to her great granddaughter and great great grandsons, whom she demanded receive only the best piano lessons (and loudest toys).
Ene was unconventional in all the best ways: a devout Christian, but excellent gambler; a skilled cook, but lover of all things prepackaged. She was thrifty and not always nice but deeply kind and generous. She was candid, fiery, and full of life and laughter until the very end. And nothing, not illness, not language barriers, not societal norms, could keep Ene from making fast friends wherever she went, from the nail salon to the grocery store, she was well known and well loved.
Ene left pieces of herself embedded in those close to her, and therefore is not only survived by, but survives through her daughter, Mashell Retherford; her great grandchildren: Amanda Mayo Finch, Joshua Mayo (wife Emily), and Harrison Mayo; and her great great grandsons: Temple (Brooks) and Rhett Flinspach - and many, many more. But now Ene joins the family members that have predeceased her: her mother, Alba Dee Moore, and father, William Lyle Evans; her brother, C.W., sisters: Waudean, Betty Lou, Connie Bee, and Carolyn; and her granddaughter, Angela Dawn Mayo.
