Evelyn Bensen Royal, 91, of Tulsa, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016. She was born August 30, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York to Greswald and Borghild Bensen of Norway. After graduation from high school in 1942, she volunteered as an air raid warden in the New York area. In 1949, she moved to St. Joseph, MO where she met and married James "Jim" T. Royal in 1952. Thomas D. and Patrice Lynn were born in 1954 and 1958. They moved to Tulsa in 1960. She was a member of Yale Ave. Christian Church, the church choir, the Double Ring Square Dance Club and the Norwegian Club of Tulsa. Square dancing, Norwegian Folk dancing, sewing, quilting and knitting filled many hours. Jim and Evelyn were the operators of Royal Paint and Wallpaper store in Tulsa. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim Royal; daughter, Patrice Lynn and her sister, Dorothy Salazar. She is survived by her son, Thomas Royal of Tulsa; grandson, Brian Royal and his wife Michelle of Tulsa; granddaughter, Erica Royal of Chantilly, VA; great grandchildren, Emma, Max and Zach.
