Obituary

Everett Sylvester Williams, Jr., passed away peacefully on July 25, 2023, at the age of 98. He was born on September 13, 1924, to Catherine Louise (Katie Lou) and Everett S. Williams, Sr. He graduated from Central High School in 1942 and married his high school sweetheart Hazel (Jones) Williams in 1943. They had four daughters, Kathryn Morgan, Cheryl Williams, Carole Shreve and Cynthia Garrett. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Force from 1943 until 1947, training as a pilot in Key West, Florida, flying Hellcats off aircraft carriers in the cover of darkness.

In the 1950s he started ABC Diaper Service in his basement, washing the laundry overnight at the Mayo Hotel. He worked hard and grew his cloth diaper delivery service to add uniforms, hospital and restaurant linens, and other commercial laundry services. He built several large laundry plants in north Tulsa and later sold his companies to Cintas and Superior Linen. Almost all of his family took turns working in every department of his business, from counting dirty diapers to management.

Everett was fun, generous to a fault, the official family "certifier," and most of all a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was generous in making family memories whether it be fun times at Grand Lake or heading out in RVs for family ski trips. He was truly the patriarchal head of our crazy clan and we will all miss him dearly. He was a big supporter of the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane, Greater St. Peter Baptist Church in North Tulsa, and Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.

He was preceded in death by his parents Katie Lou and Everett S. Williams, Sr., daughter Carole Glyn (Williams) Shreve, brother Richard Williams and sister LaRue Sherrill.

He is survived by wife Angela Williams and daughters Kathryn (Williams) Morgan and husband Rue Morgan of St. Petersburg, Florida, daughter Cheryl Williams of Garland, Texas, and daughter Cynthia (Williams) Garrett of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by two stepchildren with wife Gail Williams, Gary Wayne Braswell and wife Karen (and their children John Braswell, Abby (Braswell) Graves and her husband Gabe, Sarah Braswell, Andrew Braswell, Rebeka Braswell and Hannah Braswell), and Deana (Braswell) Brooks and husband Greg (and their children Emily Brooks, Joshua Brooks, Melody Brooks and Katelyn Brooks). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Deborah (Morgan) Thompson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Shane LeMasters of Garland, Texas, Lance Morgan of St. Petersburg, Florida, Terra (Garrett) Guarriello and husband Daniel of Oakton, Virginia, along with Kristi Shreve and Scott Garrett, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He also survived by great-grandchildren Roman Thompson, Alexandra Thompson, Morgan LeMasters, Marah Marler, Eli LeMasters, Kyah Morgan, Ellis Guarriello, Mayla Graves and great-great-grandchild Kiana Morgan.

The family will hold a private entombment service at 10:00 a.m. on August 4, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to Clarehouse or Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.
