Obituary

Frances Ann (Stanley) Baber, 96, of Tulsa, passed away Wednesday morning, May 8, 2024. She was born on New Year's Day, 1928 in Chelsea, Oklahoma to Ora and Loy (McCoy) Stanley. That day was the coldest January 1st in Green Country history. After graduating as valedictorian of the Chelsea High School Class of 1945, Frances moved to Tulsa and attended and completed a course of study at Draughon's Business School at 11th Street and Main. She then worked as a secretary at the Guardian Life Insurance Company before marrying Warren Baber on Armistice (Veteran's) Day, 1950. It was fitting that they married on that day, as Frances rode a train by herself to Mt. Clemens, Michigan to wed Warren, who was stationed there during the Korean War. They married in a local pastor's home the day after she arrived in Michigan. Another soldier and his wife stood up with them, as she knew no one else there but Warren. To this union, four children were born, and Frances flourished in her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother for the next 74 years. She was known as an excellent seamstress and made most of her young daughters' clothes, including their wedding dresses! Frances became a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in 1947 and remained a faithful member, working in the nursery and Vacation Bible School, active in WMU and serving in the church's food pantry for almost 70 years until she moved her membership to Ranch Acres Baptist Church. She and Warren were ardent supporters of the University of Tulsa football and basketball teams throughout their lifetimes, and they enjoyed activities their membership at Oaks Country Club provided later in life. They also spent summers at their home in Gunnison, Colorado in retirement as well. Frances moved to Tulsa's Trinity Woods (Methodist Manor) in 2013 and made many new friends there. Frances is survived by her daughters, Brenda Laubhan of Edmond, Susan Newberry and her husband Mike of Seminole, and Beverly Friedl and her husband Kelly of Tulsa; son, Chuck Baber and wife Cheryl of Tulsa; grandchildren Josh Laubhan and wife Courtney of Edmond, Megan Hubbard and husband Kyle of Tulsa, Kelsey Chambers and husband Evan of Edmond, Grant and Luke Baber of Tulsa; great-grandchildren, Kate and Kash Hubbard, Kai, Whit, Ladd and Loy Chambers, Warren and Sloan Laubhan, and many nieces and nephews. She was also survived by son-in-law, Kelly Friedl's children, Lisa and Adam and their families. She is predeceased by her husband, Warren, her brother, Coy Stanley of Vinita, her sister Dorothy Stookey of Claremore and son-in-law Roger Laubhan. Visitation will be at Moore's Southlawn, 9350 E. 51st Street, Tulsa, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be held at Moore's Southlawn Chapel on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Little Lighthouse, 5120 E. 36th St. Tulsa, OK 74135 or at www.littlelighthouse.org .
