Frank Moffitt went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2022, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Frank was born to Forrest and Bertha Moffitt on February 27, 1925, in Boise, Idaho, the fifth of six children. He spent his early childhood years on a farm in Woodstock, Minnesota. When he was eight years old, the family lost the farm in Minnesota due to drought and moved to a farm near Centerville, Iowa. Frank was convicted of his sin and received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 14 after attending a gospel meeting at a local church.
Frank graduated from Centerville High in 1943 and then worked on the farm with his father for two years. He was drafted into the Army in 1945 and then switched to the Air Force the following year, where he spent nine months in the Philippines working in the classifications department. During his time in the Air Force, Frank made some good Christian friends and really began to grow spiritually.
Thanks to the GI Bill, Frank was able to begin attending college at Iowa State University in 1947, where he studied geology. He met Barbara Raffety through Inter Varsity in 1948, and they were married on August 6, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Their oldest son, Philip, was born in the fall of 1951. Frank switched to the University of Iowa for his senior year in geology and graduated with a master's degree in August of 1952. After graduation, he began his career with Texaco and relocated to Oklahoma. Three of Frank and Barbara's children were born in Oklahoma City: Paul (1953), Rebecca (1955), and Lois (1959). The family began attending Grace Gospel Chapel in Oklahoma City and later helped start a new home meeting with their friends Don and Marie Norbie.
In 1959, Frank and his family began attending Sooner Bible Camp in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and he eventually served as a board member for the camp. Texaco moved the family to Salem, Illinois, in June of that year. Frank and Barbara's youngest two sons were born in Illinois: John (1960) and Daniel (1962). The family moved back to Oklahoma in June of 1966, where they continued to work with Sooner Bible Camp and Bible clubs for children. In 1968, Frank and his family began attending Ozark Family Camp in Missouri, where they made many close friends. He later served as a board member and treasurer until 2006. In 1971, the family made their final move to Jenks, Oklahoma, and began attending Tulsa Gospel Chapel (now East Tulsa Bible Chapel). Frank served as an elder for over 30 years.
In May of 1985, Frank retired after almost 33 years with Texaco. He spent his retirement years serving in his local church, opening his home for hospitality, travelling with his wife Barbara, and praying for and spending time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His daughter Becky came to live with him after Barbara passed away.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2008. They enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his six children and their spouses, 18 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
