Frank Joseph Smentowski III went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2017. Frank was born on June 12, 1933 to Frank and Mary Smentowski and was raised in Colorado Springs. He graduated from Regis College with his Bachelor of Science degree and from Northwestern University with a Ph. D in Physical Organic Chemistry. He conducted research before becoming a professor at Texas A&M, Oral Roberts University and Tulsa Community College. He had a love of learning and teaching. He spent over fifty years in the classroom.
He loved God with his whole heart and spent hours seeking God with his Bible, studying in both Greek and Hebrew for clarification. He was an active member for many years of the Vietnamese Baptist Church and the Brotherhood of St. Andrew's.
Frank also challenged himself by playing chess and for many years participated in tournaments across the state. He was excited about driving sports cars, with a love to drive fast to the chagrin of others.
Frank is survived by his wife Thuy, sons (spouses) Frank IV (Theresa), Larry (Rose), Marc (Wendy), and daughters (spouses) Monica Barksdale (Jeff), Mary Hatch (Dean), Liz and Christine Smentowski. Frank has 6 grandchildren: Joy, Leah, and Olivia Smentowski, Thomas and Wallis Hatch, and Mathew Barksdale. He is also survived by his siblings Marianne Berdon, Pat Ziemer and John Smentowski and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Betty, brother Leo Smentowski and twin siblings Paul and Pauline. He was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, sibling and friend.
For those who wish to remember Frank as a father you may wish to contribute to an education fund to be established for his daughter Christine.
Visitation will be at Moore's Southlawn on Sunday, April 30 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Services will be held Monday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Asbury Methodist Church Mason Chapel.
