Fred Sylvester Capps was born on Tuesday, May 20, 1924 in Hanna, OK to Will and Rena Pendley Capps. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Platte. After serving, he came home and began his career as a barber, dedicating his life to raising his family focused to love God and one another. This confidence in God and His eternal hope was evident in how he treated and loved all people, striking conversation with any stranger wherever he was and referring to people he did business with as friends rather than customers. "The barber shop" was always a meeting place for family and friends, as was his annual booth at the Tulsa State Fair. A few highlights in his life were earning his pilots license after he finally developed a hobby (rather than all work), and later he was privileged to travel to and tour The Holy Lands. He always stressed eating right and staying healthy, working out on a daily basis along with "short pauses" to reset throughout the day. His inner joy and hope was always evident. Even as his health recently declined, when asked how he was doing his response always "very well". His memory might not recall yesterday, but he always recalled exact dates he served in the South Pacific and names of every single port. It was not uncommon early mornings to hear him coming down the hall whistling the tones of the ships alert he had heard so many times, then calling out loud "All hands on deck! Man your battle stations!". Raising his family, the normal morning wake up was him calling out "Rise and shine! Feet on the floor! Hit the deck!". He was lovingly known as "Daddy" to his girls, and "Buddy" to his grandchildren and extended family (nicknamed by his parents and siblings).

Preceded in death by parents Will and Rena Capps; siblings Wilma Capps Lakey, Oleta Capps Haws, Billy (George) Capps, Anna Lee Capps Sartain and AL Capps; daughter Judy Nehring; granddaughter in law Tracy Argo; great granddaughter Lacey Fladstol.

He is survived by his wife Lana Capps, daughter Elaine Earp and husband Trenton Earp, daughter Sylvia Turman, son in law Jon Nehring, step son Chuck Marshall and wife Robyn.

Grandchildren: Jacqueline Harvey and husband Scott, Jill Yocabet and husband Tony, Jeff Nehring Sr., Kim Argo Blackwell, Dean Argo, Vickie Gregory, Dean Gregory, Nicole Pair, Gillian Marshall, Carter Marshall.

An informal memorial and reflection time will be held on Monday September 19, 2022 from 11 am - 1 pm at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E 51st, Tulsa, OK 74145.

The US Honor Guard will be present at 12:30 to play taps and dedicate the flag.

Interment immediately following at Hanna Cemetery in Hanna, OK.
