Obituary

FRED A. SETSER

Born in Tulsa, OK March 13, 1929 to W.A. and Katherine Owens Setser, both

members of pioneer Tulsa families. Fred left this good life for an even better one to be with his Lord on March 1, 2013 at the age of 83.

Attended Tulsa Public Schools and graduated from Will Rogers High School in

1947. Began studies at the University of Tulsa interrupted by four years of service in the U.S. Air Force as-an instrument flight instructor. After discharge returned to TU graduating in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration. Received postgraduate degree in 1964 from Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.

Business career began at Tulsa Chamber of Commerce as manager of civic and

governmental affairs. From 1959 to 1968 was marketing officer at two major

Houston banks and was Texas chairman of Bank Marketing Association. Returned

to Tulsa in 1968 as senior vice-president of Fourth National Bank to direct

marketing and business development. While at The Fourth, became involved in a

leadership role in several civic and community organizations including:

nine-year chairman Economic Development Commission of Tulsa, President University of Tulsa Alumni Association, chairman, chairman Tulsa Junior College Foundation, Secretary-Treasurer Tulsa-Rogers County Port Authority and president Propeller Club Port of Catoosa.

In 1973 was named Distinguished Alumnus of University of Tulsa. After an eighteen year career in banking, began a new career as an entrepreneur and owner-operator of American Wholesale Thermographers printing business in Tulsa. After retirement from business, became a member of the Executive Service Corps of Tulsa and later served as chairman.

Fred was a strong believer in having the right mentor at the right time in life and was fortunate to have had some ofthe best: his father, W. A. Setser; Russell S. Rhodes, Tulsa Chamber of Commerce; J .W. McLean, Texas National Bank and Bud Hatfield, International Center for Entrepreneurial Development.

Fred was dearly loved by his family and friends. He was a 36 year member of

Asbury United Methodist Church. Fred was preceded in death by his father and his

mother. Survivors are: beloved wife of 60 years Joanne also descended from

pioneer Tulsa families, daughter Sandy Posey and her husband Tom of Chickasha,

OK, grandson Travis Posey and his wife Libby of Chickasha, granddaughter Elise

Bradford and her husband Angelo of Edmond, OK, great grandchildren Ava Elise

Posey, William King Posey and Audrey Kate Bradford.

Memorial services will be held in Mason Chapel of Asbury United Methodist

Church 6767 South Mingo on March 4, 2013 at 2:00 pm under the direction of

Moore's Funeral Home Southlawn. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made

to the College of Business Administration University of Tulsa 800 S. Tucker Dr
