Freda Croom Huckin passed away on Oct 18 and was immediately taken into heaven. She was loved for the many lives she touched with her quick wit, laughter, compassion and thoughtfulness.
She was born on October 8, 1924 in Durant, Oklahoma as the only child of Masie and Fred Croom. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. Upon graduation she went to work at the O.U. Guidance Center as a counselor.
She married Bill Huckin, Jr. on November 14, 1947, and they made Tulsa their home for over 68 years. He preceded her in death in September, 2016. Freda was an exceptional leader and community volunteer. The Junior League awarded her their "Volunteer of the Year" (1957-1958) for "outstanding volunteer leadership in the community and in the Junior League". She was very involved in her garden and investment clubs and cherished those decades of friendships.
Freda and Bill were long time members of First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa where she served as a teacher, deacon, elder and the chairperson of the Worship and Music Committee. For several years she was on staff at the Church as Director of Outreach.
A great joy of Freda's life was her family: Dr. Bill III and his wife Carol, David and his wife Karla, Betsy Hunt and her husband Houston, and Barbara Fennell and her husband Mike. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Tulsa at 1 pm on Monday, Oct. 23. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church's Worship and Music Committee, or Helping Hands ministry. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233 share memories at
