Freddie Hugh Gibson, 78, was born December 1, 1947 in Caldwell, KS to Oscar Hugh Gibson and Lula Pearl (Carter) Gibson. Fred grew up and attended school in Medford, OK where he excelled in academics and athletics. He graduated as valedictorian of his class in May of 1966. Following high school, Fred earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Oklahoma State University and received the awards of Top Ten Business Senior and Top Ten University Senior of his graduating class of 1970.
Fred married his high school sweetheart, Janice Sims, on December 22, 1968. They spent 57 inspiring years together working as a team to finish college, start a family, build a business, love their kids and grandkids, travel, minister at their church and cheer for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. After college, Fred began his career at Arthur Anderson then went on to create his business ICS to write accounting software and install computer systems. This endeavor led Fred and Janice to buy Heat Transfer Equipment Company in 1988. He became president and ran the company for 25 years before retiring and passing the torch to his sons.
Fred was known for his love of God and family and for his sense of humor where he enjoyed teasing those closest to him. He would always insert the perfect comment at just the right time to make people laugh. He was a man of integrity, loyalty, wisdom, intelligence and generosity. His 6 younger siblings looked up to him and saw their older brother as a mentor. His hobbies included boating, water and snow skiing, reading and watching OSU sports. Fred developed his love for boating from his Uncle Jay and spent the rest of his life on the local lakes. He gave his family a love for the water, the mountains, and the Cowboys. Together, Fred and Janice attended every activity possible that their kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews were involved in creating cherished memories for them and impacting their lives.
Fred was an involved, committed and founding member of Evergreen Baptist church where he and Janice opened their home for the initial church meetings over 25 years ago. He spent his time reading and studying God's Word and taught Sunday School for most of his adult life. By example, he showed his family the importance of attending and serving in church, Bible study and prayer, giving and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Fred was a devoted believer in every aspect of his life, and his faith guided the way he lived.
