Gary William Gunter was born on December 11, 1944, in Wichita, KS to Preston Albert and Lois Amy (Howard) Gunter. He was raised in Wichita, KS, attending Sunnyside Elementary, Roosevelt Jr High School, and East High School (Class of 1963). He was on the track team, running the quarter mile. Gary studied business at Wichita State University and joined Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Gary was a Veteran, serving in the US Navy as a boatswain's mate, during the Viet Nam war. He saw significant action in the waters around Da Nang.
Gary married Dianne Downey, a SE High graduate, on September 24, 1966. They were married for over 50 years. She died on May 17, 2020, in Wichita.
He is survived by his children: Brad Gunter (and his son Josh, and daughters, Abby and Kaytlyn) live in Tulsa, OK, and Carri Gunter (and her daughter, Jaynie) live in Wichita. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Ann Gunter Fraser (& husband, Knute) and his brother, Michael Preston Gunter (& wife, Patricia).
Gary was a Pizza Hut Manager in Houston, TX. He was later in the building supply business, spending time in Houston and Kerrville, TX, and Denver, CO. He retired and moved to Wichita, KS with part-time employment at Cabela's. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golf.
