Gary Bruce Hornbostel was born on January 23, 1955, to Rubye and Victor Hornbostel. Gary has three older brothers, Pat, Charles, and Bill. Gary graduated in 1973 from Memorial Senior High School in Tulsa, OK, where he was active in track and cross country running. Gary then went on to earn a bachelor's degree at Oklahoma State University. Gary loved Oklahoma State athletics, fly fishing, camping, craft beer, the mountains, hiking, and being outdoors. Gary passed away on January 20th, 2019, at the age of 63.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Rubye and Victor Hornbostel. Gary is survived by his partner, Phyllis, step-son Justin Collins, daughter Megan and her partner Heather, and granddaughter Adelynn Rose. Gary is also survived by his three older brothers, Pat and wife Margaret, Charles, Bill and wife Janice.
