Obituary

GAYL ANITA WILSON, 72, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed Thursday, February 22, 2018 at home surrounded by friends and family. Gayl was born December 12, 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Jack and Emalee Gibson.

She is preceded by her husband, Mike Wilson (d. May 18, 2017) and survived by her two daughters, Rachel Vogle and Leesa Shrader, her sister Pat Hine, her beloved nieces Sloan Daniels and Audrey Mosier, and her pride of grandchildren, Michael Crain, Alixandra and Kathryn Vogle, Hanna and Cole Shrader.

Gayl was a creative bombshell starting with childhood plans to join the circus with her pet duck and extending to leading roles at McLain High School, including Little Women, Diary of Anne Frank and Li'l Abner, as the unforgettable Daisy Mae. Gayl studied journalism at Oklahoma Baptist University, where she met and married football hunk Mike Wilson. They moved to Tulsa, where she continued acting and directing at Tulsa Little Theater, while volunteering in Tulsa schools with special needs children.

Gayl worked for many years in journalism, writing for and managing magazines including the Sentinel and SpiritLink. She was part of the Wilson family mania to grow soccer in America, developing magazines for the United States Youth Soccer Federation and Oklahoma Soccer Association, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008.

She fulfilled her dream to become a novelist by co-authoring two mysteries with her sister Pat under the penname Patricia Gayl, capturing their love of murder, mayhem, Eureka Springs and their Cherokee heritage. Gayl excelled at creation, including painting and technology, community building, parenting and grandmothering, building beautiful homes and cabins on the Illinois River, finding mystery and getting lost on road trips. She also excelled at love for friends who were never strangers, family and spirit.

A celebration of life for Gayl will be held Thursday, March 1st at 3:00 pm in Tulsa at the Unity Church of Christianity at 3355 S. Jamestown Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mercy Corps or National Public Radio.
