George Albert Backstrom went peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on April 26, 2016. He was born April 16, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois to parents, George and Helen Backstrom. He attended college at Oral Roberts University. He worked for Shadow Mountain institute assisting with the care of foster children.

In Chicago, Illinois, George married Marlene Voelker in 1966 and they lived in a local suburb of Hazelcrest where they started their family. In 1983 they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. George enjoyed singing, bird watching, gardening, working artistically, flower arranging, handyman work, studying and was involved in his local church.

George is survived by his wife, Marlene Backstrom; daughters, Michele Wenaas and Heather Gastineau; son, Lon Backstrom; grandchildren, Amber Bartels, Wade Wenaas, Marlena, Chris and Nicole Gastineau; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Keegan Bartels, Chloe Gastineau; cousin, George Lou Bruesch. He had six siblings and is survived by five, Gregory, Peggy, Kathy, Marty and Patricia. He was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene.

Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 29, at Moore's Rosewood Chapel, 2570 S. Harvard Ave, Tulsa. Moore's Rosewood 918-744-1202. In lieu of flowers, please make contribution to a charity of your choice.
