Born September 17th, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, George "Getman" Hooper passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter at his side on May 22nd, 2018.
George graduated from Edison High School in 1961. He attended college at Texas Christian University, graduating in 1965. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta and lettered in tennis. Upon graduation from the University of Tulsa, George joined the US Air Force where he served from 1966-1970 during the Vietnam War. George was assigned to Tokyo, Japan, where he attained the rank of Captain.
After leaving the Air Force, George entered law school at the University of Tulsa where he graduated in 1974. He interned with Boyd & Parks Law Firm and was hired upon graduation. George was a member of the Tulsa County Bar Association, the Oklahoma Bar Association and Oklahoma Trial Lawyers.
In 1975 George met and married Judy Garoutte Lund. They made their home in Sand Springs where Judy was a teacher. George quickly became an active member of the community and won a City-Counsel seat in 1982. He served as Mayor from 1984-1986 during which time they made many new friends. One of his greatest pleasures in life was playing golf. He belonged to a very special group of golfers known as the "Coop Group" and looked forward to their yearly trip to Bella Vista. George was also a longtime member of the Sand Springs Rotary.
George is survived by Judy, his wife of 41 years, daughter Lisa Loewinsohn, two grandsons, Aaron and Jake Gore of Plano, Texas; and brother in law Gary Garoutte of Coweta. George is preceded in death by his son, Mark and parents George Jay and Virginia Hooper.
