Former Lawtonian, George William Martin "Slats", 67, of Broken Arrow, OK, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 30, 1975, at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital, Tulsa, OK. He was born on Saturday, December 28, 1907, in Coal River, Kanawah County, WV, to William David Martin and Mary Elizabeth (Rowsey) Martin. He retired from the U. S. Army, in August 1939, after serving in the old 18th Field Artillery, at Fort Sill, KS. He owned several businesses in Lawton, OK, from 1939 to 1958, when he moved to the Tulsa area and became a farmer. He was married to Ann Louise (Russell) Martin on Saturday, April 7, 1928, in Chickashaw, OK. She died Thursday, February 12, 1970. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, OK. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Bill "Geraldine" Rankin, Elgin; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchldren.
