George was born January 24, 1931 in Ft Worth, Texas to Edward Sampson McCoy and Minnie Knight McCoy. He grew up in Tyler, Texas. He died at home on October 11, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
George was a simple man who worked hard all of his life. His great loves were his Lord, Jesus Christ, his childhood sweetheart and wife of 61 years, Mary, and their children, Ray and Donna. He served his country in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper from 1952-1954. After his service years, he worked for Standard Brands and Fadler Foods in Tulsa for most of his career. He then bought Main Auto Supply in Bristow, Oklahoma, and later added an Ace Hardware and ran that business for 20 years. He was a 33rd degree Mason for 50 years.
George and Mary were well known in Bristow, where they headed the Green Country Pilot's
Association and a Goldwing motorcycle club. Both pilots, they enjoyed flying their Piper Archer, and traveled across the country on the Gold Wing motorcycle with a little camp trailer. After retiring and selling their businesses, they traveled for a year in a motor home, finally landing in Tulsa.
George attended Southwood Baptist Church for many years and was active in their seniors group activities. He also loved attending the Friday Night Opry Band every week and made many friends there.
George is survived by his children, Ray (Jane) McCoy, Donna (Robert) Shelton, a sister, Billie Ann and Ken Tucker of Florida, grandchildren J R McCoy, Jeremy Duff, Cassandra Caldwell, Kim Morgan, and a number of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, and siblings Hilton McCoy, Jimmy Don McCoy, Markie Kask, and Dorothy Blair
