Obituary

George Thomas Nonamaker, 87, of Tulsa, OK, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in Tulsa. George was born in Waterbury, CT, to Frederick and Helen Nonamaker on May 20, 1938. He enlisted in the military in 1956 and served in the fire department for many years, working his way up to the position of Fire Inspector and ultimately Fire Chief. After retiring as a Technical Sergeant in 1973, he rejoined the military in a Civil Service position, from which he retired in 1994 with the rank of GS-12.

He was very active in the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and Homeland Security, and worked full time with the American Legion, where he held various roles, including State Commander in 2013 and 2014. He enjoyed working, helping other veterans, and spending time at the American Legion Post and with his family. He received numerous awards and honors from his many years in the military, his time with the American Legion, and Homeland Security. He made financial donations for many years to the Oklahoma Baptist Home for Children and Shriners Children's Hospital.

In his later years, he loved watching crime shows in his rocking chair with a Miller Lite in his hand and his wife, Marlene, by his side.

George is survived by his wife, Marlene Nonamaker, of Tulsa; daughters Frances Knittel (Dan Knittel), Norene Peek, and Mitzi Blanchard (Jude Blanchard); sons Robert Hall (Sandra Hall) and Michael Nonamaker; his brother Jerry Nonamaker; 17 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Helen Nonamaker; sisters Dottie and Norene; brothers Frederick Jr. and Frank; his son George Thomas Nonamaker Jr.; and grandson Brian Nonamaker.

A funeral service will be held at Moore Funeral Home, 9350 E. 51st St., Tulsa, on Wednesday, February 11, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Randy Alley officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, 1423 Cemetery Rd., Fort Gibson, OK. Viewing will be held at Moore Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Legion Charities or Disabled American Veterans in his honor. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who have reached out during this time of loss.
