Obituary

RUSHTON, George L, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa and friend to many, died April 10, 2014 in Tulsa. He was born to Frances and George Rushton May 11, 1920 in Omaha, NE. When he was little, his folks, three older brothers, and younger sister moved to Red Oak, IA where George, Sr. bought a creamery, thus his life-long love for ice cream! He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1937 and attended many high school reunions. George attended Dartmouth College to study chemistry and was a proud member of the class of '42. After graduation, he worked at Seagram's Distillery (where they washed smokeless gunpowder with alcohol for the war) in Louisville, KY, where he met his future wife, Evelyn Rose.

They married in Massachusetts while George was in USMC Radar School. Eventually he was shipped off to the Marshall Islands, Eniwetok and Kwajalein, returning to CA for infantry invasion training. He continued his studies at University of Kentucky where William was born then on to University of Texas where Charles and Carol were born, earning an MS in chemistry.
The family moved to Lake Charles where George worked for Cities Service Company as a bench chemist. The family moved to New Jersey where George became a patent agent for the company, then moved to Tulsa to continue as a patent agent retiring after that.he puttered around his garden, read voraciously, played bridge with Widowed Persons Service, attended John Calvin Presbyterian Church and played cribbage with the grandkids. George's 2008 family cruise to Alaska let him visit the last of all 50 states.

He is survived by his son, Charles Rushton and wife, Pamela; daughter, Carol Leonard and husband, Brent; grandchildren, Jeremy and Rebecca Rushton, and Sean Leonard. Preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; son, William; his beloved mother-in-law, Lura Rose; his parents; siblings and their spouses.
Thank you to Southern Plains, St. Francis Hospital and Forest Hills Care Center for his care.
