George A Shute Sr

George passed early Friday morning. He was 86 years old. Born in Wichita, he spent his childhood partly in Oxford and Winfield, Kansas. He joined the merchant marines at a young age and worked in shipping in the Mediterranean Sea. George joined the Army Air Corps in about 1947 and learned and taught radio communications in Denver, CO. George married Joan Rogers of Winfield, Kansas in 1950. Joan and he had 4 children, George II, Roger (deceased), Joni (deceased) and Jack.

Airman Shute was assigned to observe the 1951 hydrogen bomb tests in the South Pacific and later was stationed at Patrick AFB in Florida and Bitburg, Germany. George attained the rank of Master Sergeant in the USAF. He was involved in drone missle research and development for which he received 2 commendation medals at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. MSgt Shute retired after 20 years service in 1966. Mr. Shute was later involved in automobile tire testing research and standardization in Laredo, College Station, and San Angelo, TX where his wife Joan passed in June, 1988.

George was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed amateur radio, fishing and traveling, especially in his motor home all over the Texas hill country, Kansas and the western US with his pet poodle and navigator, Miss Flossie, for 9 years.

Mr. Shute is survived by 2 sons and 5 grandchildren in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Houston, and San Angelo, Texas.
