Gerald D. "Jerry" Bryan died Tuesday, June 5, 2018. He was born March 8, 1951 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Donald William and MarDelle Hartshorn Bryan. The family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1958 and Jerry lived in the area for most of his life. He attended Tulsa Public Schools and graduated from Daniel Webster H.S. in 1969. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army where he became an Intelligence Analyst. Jerry served in Korea with the 24th Psychological Operations Detachment. His last assignment was as a Specialist 5 with the 203rd Military Intelligence Company at Ft. Hood, Texas. After his discharge in 1972 he returned to Tulsa.
Jerry earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from Tulsa Junior College. In1974 he became a Tulsa Police Officer. While an officer he returned to school and earned his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice and Corrections from Langston University in 1981. During his career he worked in patrol, detention, traffic investigation, criminal investigation, and crime analysis. He retired from Tulsa PD in 2005.
Jerry was a life member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #93 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 577 in Tulsa. Jerry joined the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club in 1976. He served over 20 years on the Blue Knights International Board of Directors, including terms as the International Treasurer and the International Vice President.
He was blessed in middle age to reconnect with a high school girlfriend. Jerry and Debra Miller married on November 11, 2000. Since they were both U. S. Army veterans this made it even more special. They were together until Debbie went home to Jesus in 2014. Jerry was also preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers Thomas and Patrick Bryan and youngest sister Debra Velazquez.
Jerry is survived by sister-in-law Shirley Bryan, sister Nancy Murray and husband Steve, son Earl Beck, son Wyatt Beck and wife Missy, grandchildren Elijah Beck, Trenton Beck, Luke Beck, and Trinity Beck, many nieces and nephews and their families, and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral service will be at New Bethel Assembly of God. Jerry will be laid to rest beside Debbie at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
