Gerald Dennis Johnson, 79, of Coweta, OK passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at The
Villages at Southern Hills.
Jerry was born December 24, 1942 in Tulsa, OK to Marvin and Geneva Johnson. He graduated
from Tulsa Central High School in 1960 and went on to earn a degree in engineering from
Oklahoma State University in 1965. Upon graduation, Jerry served his country as an officer
with the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970.
After an honorable discharge from the service, Jerry returned to Tulsa to raise his family and
work for Southwestern Power Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Energy, for
which he worked his entire career. In addition to his career Jerry made time to serve as
coach for both sons in soccer, and enjoyed playing the sport himself for many years.
Additionally, he was an avid wood worker and crossword-smith, a birder, enjoyed traveling and
photography. In his later years in Coweta, he enjoyed bowling, and he was pretty good at it.
He also became a self-taught computer programmer, developing several programs to make
tasks more fun and easier.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Geneva, infant son Dennis Michael, and brother
Larry. He is survived by youngest brother Richard of Denton, TX, son Bradley and wife
Elaine Brumley Johnson of Rogers, AR, son Daniel of Coweta, OK, and granddaughter Camryn of Jenks, OK.
Services will be held at The Chapel of Saints Valley at Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday,
November 5, 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to Tulsa
Public Radio where Jerry enjoyed listening to classical music.
