Obituary

Gerald Lewis Wyatt entered this world on January 16, 1933 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was greeted at the gates of heaven October 13, 2022 at the age of 89. Jerry graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1951. While at Central, he excelled at football and baseball. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and received an honorable discharge at the rank of Corporal. After his time in the military, Jerry returned to Tulsa and became active in the Golden Gloves organization where representing Oklahoma twice at the national tournament as the state boxing champion.

On January 20, 1956, he and Alice Jean Roby eloped and were married in Wagoner, OK. From this union came five children: Gerald, Cheryl, Donnie, Lori and Stephen. Jerry started as a messenger boy with Stanolin Oil, working his way up to a landman position with the James Obanion Company. Afterwards he still worked in the petroleum industry selling oil field and plumbing supplies. He was a small business owner for several years before finally retiring from the Home Depot contractor's desk.

Jerry, not one to sit still in retirement, volunteered at the Tulsa International Airport and the St Francis Hospital's Cancer Center. More than anything Jerry was most proud of his family. Jerry encouraged his children to participate in sports, where he also coached football, baseball and softball. Papa was the best motivator and cheerleader to his grandkids and great-grandkids . He could be found watching their sporting events, TU football games, and fishing.

Jerry was preceded in death by Alice, his beautiful wife of 49 years; parents Lewis and Ruth; daughter Cheryl; sisters Norma Lou and Virginia; and brothers Jack, Bruce, and Bob. He is survived by his children: Gerald Wyatt and wife Tonya of Tulsa; Donnie Wyatt and wife Melissa of Broken Arrow; Lori Cherrington of Tulsa; and Stephen Wyatt and wife Mickie of Broken Arrow. Nine grandchildren: Kristi, Charles, Cody, Sean, Chelsey, Shelby, Mattie, Ashley, and Shane. Ten great-grandchildren: Mylee, Drew, Jack, Blayklee, Caroline, Liam, Baker, Fitz, James, and Poppy. He is also survived by one brother, Charley Wyatt and wife Janice of Broken Arrow; sister-in-law Joan Wyatt Pielsticker of Tulsa; numerous nieces and nephews, and lastly, Angel, his sweet greyhound.

The family is requesting donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Gerald's service will be held on Tuesday, October 18th at 10:00am at Moore's Southlawn Chapel.
