Gerald Wayne Ishmael was born on April 10, 1937, and went to be with Jesus, January 31, 2019. He is survived by Sonnie, his wife of over 60 years; his two children, Mike & Mindy; his 6 grandchildren, Colton Ishmael, Kirsti Ellard, Zac Pittman, Lynnae Gorman, Jeremy Pittman, Larissa Reynolds and his ten great grandchildren, Dace & River Ishmael, Blakely Ellard, Zoe & Benjamin Pittman, Lucas, Levi & Liam Gorman, Malakai and Cecilia Reynolds, Chris Conway, who he adopted as his grandson, his cousin, Phyllis McIlory, the sister he never had, his brother Phil Ishmael and two nephews, David & Brian Ishmael.
Jerry is known and loved by many...so very many. He has often been described as being tough as leather, stubborn as a mule, strong as an ox and just plain ornery. Having been raised on a farm, he never lost his love for the outdoors whether it was camping in Oklahoma, traveling through Colorado, fishing, golfing or just enjoying the sunshine on his backyard deck. Always ready with a story, he is family-oriented, fiercely loyal, a great warrior of the faith and very loving. The great love of his life is his wife, Sonnie along with his two children, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren that knew him better as Papa. Jerry believes in servant leadership not merely in his words but through his actions. Countless people have called the Ishmael household home and have referred to Jerry & Sonnie as their Nana & Papa because of the advocate and protector Jerry is for others. Many have gleaned from his wisdom and have often heard him say,
"Don't sweat the small stuff"
