Gladys Lucille Thompson Lawson was born on July 31, 1922 in Proctor, Oklahoma. She died at 98 years and 6 months of age on January 31, 2021 in Bixby, Oklahoma, having lived a long, fulfilling life on Earth, one full of love, laughter, beauty, faith and hope. She was a force: a fiercely loving, unapologetically feminine, uniquely capable woman with an iron will.
A wonderful cook and avid gardner, Gladys, a country-raised girl, loved to create meals using the vegetables, fruits and nuts that she grew in her own garden. She took great pride in her beautiful rose and flower garden, which she tended with loving care and joy as long as she was able. At age 90, she retired to Sand Plum Assisted Living.
Gladys married James Leroy Lawson on October 4, 1941. "Jimmy" as she called him was the love of her life. Together they endured World War II and raised 4 daughters, Barbara Ann Lawson Gorrell, Betty Louise Lawson Dupree, Helyn Kathleen Lawson McElhattan, and Karen Sue Lawson Koller.
During her last months of life, she was Covid-positive and endured the quarantine that prevented her from enjoying all that she loved-family,bingo and friends. When speaking with her, all she could say was that she missed her kids and of course, they missed her, too!
Her loving husband, Leroy, predeceased her by 28 years. Now they are finally together. They left a legacy of lives well-lived and a grateful family who remembers them with love. She lives on in the hearts of her children, 11 grandchildren, and many, many, great-grandchildren.
