Many miracles and myths came together to make Glafira Ildelisa Salazar's life: an ancestry leading back to Spain's Canary Islands, an early childhood in idyllic Cuba, a large family of siblings, aunts and uncles, a marriage to an engineer turned counter-revolutionary, expatriation from her home, resilient relocation to Miami and ultimately Oklahoma, remarriage to a stronghearted man, motherhood to three daughters, aunthood to many, grandmotherhood and great-grandmotherhood to even more.
Her home was a gathering place built out of cafecitos, frijoles, flan, picadillo, telenovelas, revistas, Cuban rhythms, singing, playing children, and laughter. Throughout her life she created and nurtured a community of vibrant souls and celebrated their individuality. She tested their endurance, weathered their nonsense, and busied herself with their well-being. Her grand legacy leaves dozens of lives richer and more colorful, a family and community of friends full of blessings and cherished memories.
