Glynn Popejoy, born on Wednesday, January 31, 1917, in Groesbeck, TX, to Whitt Popejoy and Ella Mae (Owens) Popejoy. As a child, Glynn attended Sunday School with a perfect attendance record of ten consecutive years at First Methodist Church of Groesbeck, Texas. After graduating from Groesbeck High School, he became a supervisor for a road building contractor and worked throughout Texas and Oklahoma. In September,1939, he married Rubye Belle Ingram, of Mexia, Texas.
During World War II, he joined the " Seabees " of the U. S. Navy, was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, served on the Island of Samar, and engaged the enemy at Leyte Gulf, during the Philippine Liberation. After the war, he and Rubye settled in Groesbeck where their two children, Gayle Elizabeth and Michael Glynn, were born. His job with a road building contractor took him to Puerto Rico where he and his family lived for three years. Upon returning to the States, the family moved to Miami, Oklahoma, where Glynn became Vice-President of the H. D. Youngman, Inc. contracting company.
Glynn continued his early religious training by teaching Sunday School and serving in many areas of the First Methodist Church in Miami, OK, until he had a heart attack, and went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Thursday, September 29, 1977, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, OK.
Glynn is survived by his wife; daughter, Gayle Elizabeth Farley; 2 brothers, James Popejoy and William Barnett Popejoy; sister, Ella Mae Taylor; many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Rufe Ursery Popejoy and Whit "Chuck" Popejoy; and 2 sisters, Lessie Fay Popejoy and Floy Popejoy. Glynn will be greatly missed in the days ahead, but his spirit and memories will live on within each of us, because we were privileged to have him in our lives.
