Obituary

Gorman Rumsey was born October 20, 1951 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Loren and Berniece Rumsey. After graduating from Will Rogers High School he attended Culinary Arts Classes at Okmulgee Tech. Working such places as Harmon's, Hilton Inn, and the Iron Horse, he soon followed his dream of becoming a local semi-truck driver, but one of his favorite jobs was working in an FAA Repair Station doing aircraft repair.

On New Years Day, in 1973, Gorman met Brenda Nettles on a blind date set up by a friend. On the second date, he asked her to marry him...which she replied "you're very special but slow down". Gorman's faith was strong and a month later after Brenda was baptized he asked her again to be his bride and she said yes. They were married on October 30th, 1973 and had a successful marriage of 42 years. Together they raised two children, a son-Kenneth and a daughter-Lisa...and three grandsons, Yusuf, Micheal, and Isaac. His journey included many trials, including the death of their daughter in 2011, but through it all his faith and love of our Lord grew and gave him strength.

Gorman was very involved in the work of the church and treasured his church family and friends. He spent many years of service in the Bus Ministry and when a Deaf Ministry was started decided to learn sign language. His love of the Deaf led him to make life-long friends with such people as Roy and Tsianina (Ginger) Kinney, Bob and Lynda Goodson, and Gordon and Judy White. Even as he laid in the hospital unable to speak he remembered his sign language and was able to communicate with his wife to the very end.

Gorman was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa and his father Loren. He is survived by his wife Brenda; son Kenneth; three grandsons Yusuf, Micheal, and Isaac; mother Berniece Rumsey; sister Dianna Wetzel, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends that he considered his extended family.

Gorman Rumsey left for his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 at 5:05pm, at the age of 64 years young. He is loved and will be missed by many.
