Granvel Willie Coker, 88, of Tulsa, went to meet his Heavenly Father on Friday, July 5. His great loves in life were his wife, Beverly of 47 years, his church, baseball and visiting with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guy Coker and Edna Willa Coker and a son, Guy G.Coker.
Born in Oklahoma City and raised in Bartlesville and Ramona on a farm, he had a great love for the country lifestyle. Visits to the farm and picnics are etched in his family's memory.
He attended Tulsa University and settled in Tulsa, where he raised his family.
Also know as "Granny" and "GW", he was a Mason of the 32nd Degree, a beloved baseball coach and avid fan. Many a family vacation were spent traveling to baseball games on the college and professional levels. Granvel worked in the food industry for his entire career. He was well known and loved by many in his industry, serving many years with General Mills and American Beauty, then retiring with Pillsbury. Every Sprout and Dough-boy will be vivid reminders of him to his children and grandchidlren, whom each have some memorabilia displayed in their homes. Granvel was a beloved husband, father of 5, grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of 13. He leaves behind his wife Beverly Louise Coker, son Gary Steven Coker, Sr, and wife Linda of Tulsa, son Gregg Allen Coker and wife Connie of Locus Grove, daughter Virginia Gay Dippel and husband Greg of Sunrise Beach, Texas, daughter Jamie Louise Roberts of Broken Arrow and son James D. Gannaway and wife Valerie of Denver, North Carolina.
