Obituary

Gregory John Entwistle, 67, passed away on February 12, 2014. Born December 29, 1946 to Constance and Walter Entwistle, Greg lived a life of faith, love, principle, hard work and service.

Greg graduated in 1970 from the University of Tulsa. and began a lifelong career in public accounting. On December 20, 1971 he began working at Stanfield & O'Dell. In March 1975 he was made a general partner, and four years after that, in June 1979, Greg became managing shareholder. He loved his work, his clients, his co-workers and his employees, and he remained an active consultant with the firm, even after his retirement in 2010. Greg always remembered where he started, and had his first Stanfield & O'Dell paycheck for $266.71 hanging in his office.

A man of service, Greg was extremely active in the Tulsa community. A member of the Kiwanis Club of Tulsa for nearly 40 years, he joined in 1975 and served as Member President in 1992-1993. He was a recipient of the George F. Hixon Fellowship Award and served on the Board of Directors for many years. The Kiwanis Club of Tulsa is a sponsor of the Miss Oklahoma pageant, and Greg joined the Miss Oklahoma Board of Directors in 1978. He became Treasurer in 1980 and remained so until his passing. In 1987 he became President, Treasurer & Financial Officer. He remained President until 2003 when he was named Chairman, and in 2012 Chairman Emeritus. From 1972 through 2012, $84,682,609 in scholarships were made available to more than 1600 Miss Oklahoma contestants, and made a huge impact in thousands of young people's lives. He served as Treasurer for Rick Brinkley's campaign for Senate, was actively involved with the local Better Business Bureau for 40 years, and was a member of the Tulsa Chapter of the Oklahoma Society of CPAs, serving as president from 1979-1980.

Greg called Harvard Avenue Christian Church his faith home for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Challengers Sunday School class, served as a Church Elder, and was co-chair of the church renovation and expansion building team.

Greg loved good wine, good food, golf and traveling. He merged most of those loves with an annual golf trip with friends and regular travel with his wife Connie, whom he married in 1970. He was a project man, and was never happy unless he was busy. He was kept busiest by his two grandkids. His granddaughter, Kate had an especially close relationship with her Pops, and he loved to think up activities and crafts for the two to do together, like bake cookies, build birdhouses and paint masterpieces. His grandson, Beckett, loved to snuggle and play "bear" with him.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Connie, daughter & son-in-law Liz & Ben Edelbrock, his two grandchildren, Kate and Beckett, brother & sister-in-law Gary & Carla, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Harvard Avenue Christian Church. 5502 S. Harvard Ave., Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74135. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harvard Ave. Christian Church Building Fund.
