Obituary

Guy Oneal Langston was born January 25, 1939, in Wynnewood, OK, to Oneal and Gladys Langston. He was the oldest of five children.

Guy was known for his loud infectious laugh, joke telling, and dedication to the work of the church; especially, with junior high young people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Mitch Langston and sister Ruth Mary Harris.

Guy is survived by wife of 59 years, Vicky, daughter Valerie (Eric) Brettillo, granddaughters, Isabella and Juliana Brettillo, brother Jim Langston, brother-in-law Obbie Harvey, sister-in-law Becky Post, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Guy graduated from East Central State University in 1964, where he met Vicky. They were married on June 25, 1965. He graduated from Phillips Theological Seminary in 1970 with a Master of Divinity degree, and attended the Ecumenical Institute Academy in 1972.

As an Elder in the Oklahoma United Methodist Conference, Guy was active in the Human Sexuality Ministry, District and Conference Youth Camps, Wilderness Camp, and Jurisdictional youth events. Guy served as chair of the conference Worship committee, chair of the Education committee, served on the Conference Youth Council, District Camp Curriculum committee, and helped lead Directors of Youth Ministry Training Enterprise. Guy was the clergy leader for the UMC School of Missions and led mission trips to Guatemala, Nicaragua, Alaska, Poland, and Bethlehem. For over 20 years, he and Vicky were a part of the Annual Conference Gridiron. They led the Retiree Retreat three different times. At Trinity Woods, Guy led the foreign policy study, Great Decisions, for 6 years. For many years, he was the Christian leader for the OCCJ Interfaith Dialogue Group, taught their Different and the Same program and was a counselor for Camp Anytown.

Guy was appointed and/or served these churches: Mannsville/Milburn, Madill (youth), SunnyLane UMC (youth), Covington, Geary, Ponca City assoc., Hillcrest, Edmond 1st, Boise City (St. Paul's), Chandler, Pryor, Ada 1st, SunnyLane UMC and Okmulgee. After retirement, he served as interim minister at Foyil, Glencoe, Bartlesville 1st, University (Tulsa), Copan and Coweta. He assisted with Confirmation at Boston Ave UMC for several years.

The family is especially grateful for the kind care Guy received from Trinity Woods Health Center and Ascension St. John's in-house hospice.

A celebration of life service will be held 11am Saturday November 23, 2024, at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church.
