Gwendolyn Goff Steen, 93, was born June 27, 1931, to Clifford Fuller Goff and Reba Estelle Brown in Boise City, Oklahoma. Gwen grew up in the Panhandle of Oklahoma. She attended a country school and graduated with a class of six graduates from Plainview High School in 1949. Gwen went on to attend Panhandle A&M at Goodwell, Oklahoma, and met AB. Steen.
On December 23, 1950, Gwen and A.B. were married. They moved to Elkhart, Kansas, where A.B. coached and taught school. They moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, when A.B. joined the Air Force in 1951 to attend Control Tower Operator School. Gwen lived with A.B.'s parents when A.B. went overseas in 1952, and Gwen worked for American Airlines in Tulsa.
Gwen was transferred with American Airlines to Washington D.C. when A.B. returned to the states in 1953. He was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base for two and a half years then discharged from the Air Force in June, 1955.
Michael Charles Steen was born in 1953, in Washington, D.C., Kenneth Alan Steen was born in 1955, and Ronald K. Steen was born in 1961. They were a family of five-Mike, 10, Ken, 8, Ron 3 1/2 when in 1964 they moved to England. A.B. was tasked with the responsibility of establishing T. D. Williamson's foreign business. After four years in England, they moved to Belgium for four years, then returned to Tulsa in 1971. Gwen was always grateful for the family's overseas experiences- especially for their boys.
Gwen is survived by her husband, A.B., sons, Mike (wife Lynn), Ken, and Ron (wife Carol), six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Gwen was a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital for more than 25 years.
She is loved by a multitude of friends who say she was always the most cheerful and happiest person in the group. Gwen was always positive, smiling, and loved to laugh.
When she began to suffer from Macular Degeneration and could not see for the last five years, she would always say to those who were concerned, "I don't hurt; I just can't see."
Gwen and A.B. have been loyal and active members of Asbury Church for 69 years. A.B. said they both enjoyed 74 years of wedded bliss.
